WoW: Dragonflight Alpha Points to a Possible Time-Skip for the MMO's story It's likely to happen that the narrative in World of Warcraft will jump ahead in time, following what happened in Shadowlands which is based on NPC dialog in the alpha version of the forthcoming Dragonflight expansion.
As reported by Wowhead Two conversations that were recorded, one on the Horde side and another from the Alliance side, hint at "several years" that have passed between the conclusion of Shadowlands and the start of Dragonflight even though that the "end" of the Shadowlands story only taking place just a few months ago after the release of patch 9.2. If you're not interested in spoilers for the story, you should go back to the beginning of the story now.
In Stormwind the human leaders Genn Greymane, Mathias Shaw, and Turalyon discuss the current situation of the Alliance and the Alliance, with Shaw talking about the time-skip as well as the reality that the King of Stormwind, Anduin, has not returned since his departure at the conclusion of Shadowlands. Turalyon appears to be the one who is governing Stormwind's Alliance in his place.
In the Horde part, Blood Elf chief Lor'themar talks with Nightborne leader Thalysrra and he reminisces about how many years have passed through since the Horde's troops returned from the realm of death, and the relative peace that has remained since the time. The conversation reveals that Lor'themar and Thalysrra were married between those events in Shadowlands and Dragonflight and are disputing who got married to whom. The players in the community are somewhat disappointed about not having the opportunity to be present at the wedding, but are thrilled to see the pair of Horde leaders , regardless.
To be clear, the time skip isn't "official" at this point. The NPC characters from Horde and Alliance in the Dragonflight alpha Horde as well as the Alliance within the Dragonflight Alpha do refer to it's been "several decades" have been passed since the heroes of Azeroth came back from Shadowlands The dialogue in the alpha game is susceptible to change and may not be included in the final version of the game.
